Appalachian Herbs Weekend
with Patricia Kyritsi Howell
July 9, 10 & 11, 2010
Sunnybank Inn and Retreat Center, Hot Springs, NC
Join Patricia Kyritsi Howell, author of Medicinal Plants of the Appalachian Mountains, to learn about the history, folklore and current uses of Southern Appalachian medicinal plants.
While hiking along trails lush with the native plants of summer, you’ll have plenty of time to use your senses and other time-honored techniques to identify plants and experience their essence through touch, smell, color and shape.
You’ll also learn about ethical harvesting and simple medicine making techniques using fresh herbs. This is a unique opportunity to study local flora in one of most botanically diverse regions of North America: the forests of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Weekend activities include an introductory lecture at the Inn on Friday night,
morning and afternoon hikes on Saturday followed by an option visit to the hot springs, and a hands-on medicine making workshop Sunday morning.
